  • 𝐌𝐢𝐱𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐫𝐭. This activity can have some interesting results and can build confidence in both drawing with pencils and manipulating images using a photo/paint program!

  • 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬: Pencil Drawing (preferably b&w), Camera/scanning copier, A photo paint program with layer capability like (Photshop, Gimp etc)

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧:

1. Find a hand drawn image and photograph/scan it.

2. Open a photo/paint program that allows layers (like Photoshop or a free one like Gimp) I love using Affinity Photo which is a non-subscription based option

3. Add a 'new layer' and decorate with transparent colors by making the top layer slightly transparent.

4. Use brushes and mix colors to see what happens! You can also use the eraser for interesting effects!

5. You can always 'undo' or delete the layer. Why not make multiple types and make a new image with a few of your faves?

It's super easy and helps integrate digital art into an activity without it being too complex!

Below is a visual breakdown of the steps. Subscribers will have access to a pdf of this resource.

Conclusion - Combining art in this way is great for building confidence in a variety of skills and can be easier than starting from scratch on a computer or tablet.
